Response to "The Motives of the Feminist #MeToo Movement in Václav Havel's Plays" by Jan Čulík
In many of Havel's plays women were seen only as sexual objects for the mans use and pleasure. As in the #MeToo Movement often it was men in power that most took advantage of the women subservient to them to manipulate them for their own benefit. Those women that spoke up or got blamed were dismissed in a trivial manner, for example, in the play Vyrozumeni secretary Maria is fired for a task she preformed for Director Gross and instead of standing up for her he goes for lunch. The continued representation of women in Havel's plays strictly for mens pleasure, advancement and misuse of power perpetuates the valuelessness and lack of voice that women have. This ideology is exactly why the #MeToo Movement only gained momentum and credibility as more voices joined the cause and even all those combined voices were often dismissed.
